Who we are...
We are a family of 5 living in Colorado Springs. We love nature and exploring the outdoors. Some of our favorite family hobbies include camping, hiking, horseback riding and biking.
We have 3 children who are currently all in elementary school; Dane, Savannah, and Ruby. Dane and Savannah have dyslexia and were diagnosed around 5 years old.
Dane is very creative and has an amazing memory. He loves building legos, putting things together and coming up with amazing ideas. Savannah is also very creative and intuitive. She loves to color and has amazing pretend play. She is kind and caring of her friends. Ruby was screened this year a few months before she turned 5 and she is not showing signs of dyslexia so far. She is social and makes friends with everyone she meets and has an amazing way of making people laugh.
Dane and Savannah are doing the Barton program for dyslexia and are making great gains with the program toward their reading. There are many great programs that help dyslexia, so research which would be best for you. Some of them are listed on this site.
We have a passion for spreading awareness about dyslexia and helping the schools understand the diagnosis. We hope schools will be able to properly screen for dyslexia in preschool and kindergarten and have appropriate reading programs to support the learning needs of these bright children.
This website was put together as a learning guide with information that helped us navigate dyslexia better. Please use it for your learning needs, but also do your own research as this information is coming from our experience with dyslexia and everyone’s journey is unique.
